Dr. Ghassan A Khatib graduated from Birzeit University in 1982 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics, and worked for three years as a research and teaching assistant in the Philosophy and Cultural Studies Program.
After that A Khatib, he graduated from Manchester University in 1986 with a Master's degree in Economic Development, and returned to work at Birzeit University as a lecturer in the Philosophy and Cultural Studies Program.
He completed his PhD from Durham University in Britain in 2007, and was appointed at Birzeit University as an assistant professor and academic member of the Philosophy and Cultural Studies Program.
Dr. A Khatib served at Birzeit University as Vice-President for Community Affairs between 2006-2009 and Vice-President for Development and Communication once between 2009-2013 and another in 2021-2023.
He has been a member of the Master's Program Council for International and Arab Studies since its founding. He was given a leave without pay from the University to participate in the Palestinian Cabinet between 2002-2006, as well as to work in the Governmental Press Office between 2006-2009.
He has many publications, some political and some academic; the most important of which is: "Palestinian Politics and the Middle East Peace Process: Consensus and Competition."
He participated in many voluntary legal bodies, for example:
- Member of the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid Conference and peace negotiations in Washington.
- Membership of the Active Group on the Arab-Israeli Conflict at the Weatherhead Centre in Harvard University in the United States.
- Jerusalem Media and Communication Centre
- Member of the Board of Trustees of the Yasser Arafat Foundation.
- Member of the Board of Trustees of the MAS Institute for Economic Policy.
- Member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestinian Initiative for Deepening Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH).
- Member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestinian Institute of Public Diplomacy.
