Birzeit University was the first Palestinian higher education institution to offer a master’s program, the Master’s Program in Education, in the 1976/1977 academic year. Today, the university offers 34 master’s programs, which enroll more than 1500 students.
Admission requirements
- General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) score equivalent to or higher than 65 percent.
- Bachelor’s degree, from a university accredited by Birzeit University, in a field required by the program that the applicant wishes to enroll in. All applicants must have earned a “Good” academic standing. Applicants who have an “Acceptable” standing will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the university’s Academic Council based on recommendation by the relevant department, institute, or program committee.
- Two sealed letters of recommendation by faculty members who taught the applicant or two supervisors who oversaw his or her work, or a letter from each.
Admission procedures
Applicants must deliver it as a PDF the following documents to the Registration and Admissions Department:
- One photo
- Copy of personal ID
- Certified copy of General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) transcript. Please note that applicants with a score lower than 65 percent will not be accepted.
- Copy of the applicant’s bachelor’s degree certified by the Palestinian Ministry of Education.
- Copy of the applicant’s college transcript certified by the Palestinian Ministry of Education.

Transferring students
Applicants transferring from other universities must provide an official copy of their transcripts with a course description of each. The maximum number of transferable credit hours is nine.
English language proficiency exam
After the admission decisions are announced, some accepted application will be asked to sit for an English language proficiency exam. The results of the exam will determine which applicants need to enroll in a prerequisite English reading and comprehension course. Registration for the prerequisite course begins in the spring semester of the first academic year after enrollment.
