Students Sadeen Yousef and Jwana Saeed secure first place in 10th Undergraduate Research Competition at Abu Dhabi University

Sadeen Yousef and Jwana Saeed, students at the Department of Architecture and Planning, have recently secured first place in the 10th Undergraduate Research Competition (URC) organized by Abu Dhabi University, UAE.

Supervised by Dr. Shaden Awad, assistant professor at the Department of Architectural Engineering and Planning, the students secured top spot in the Architecture and Urban Planning field of the competition for their graduation project “Mawsim Al-Nabi Rubin as a Phenomenon Post-Independence.”

The research project explores the transformation of Mawsim Al-Nabi Rubin from a religious festival to a modern summer festival and resort. It also investigates the emergence of novel aspects of modernity and their relation to Al-Mawasim traditions, speculating on the architecture and spatial phenomena that would have emerged if the Nakba did not take place and the Palestinian modernity continued.

URC is the largest undergraduate research event in the Middle East and South Africa. This year, the competition received over 400 submissions from 14 countries. It serves as a scientific platform, where student present their undergraduate scientific research and graduation projects.
