New bachelor's degree in forensic sciences set to commence next academic year

Birzeit University's new Forensic Sciences bachelor’s program received approval from the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The program will commence in the Fall Semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

First of its kind in Palestinian universities, the program was developed in response to the needs of Palestine identified by the Palestinian government, civil society organizations and international organizations.

Housed in the Faculty of Science, the interdisciplinary bachelor’s program in forensic sciences strives to provide students with a rich comprehensive science-based education focused on forensic practices. The proposed program is interdisciplinary, bringing together different programs housed in the faculty of science, faculty of law and public administration and faculty of pharmacy, nursing and health professions.

The program will provide students with a strong background in natural sciences, as well as social science and law, to help solve crimes and serve justice.  In addition, the program will develop students’ communication skills to excel in providing the results of laboratory analyses in reports and in the courtroom.

As for employment prospects, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain entry-level positions as laboratory technicians, scientists or examiners in a variety of governmental, institutional and industrial settings. It will also enable graduates to pursue graduate studies in related academic and professional health disciplines at the national and international levels.
