On International Human Rights Day, Birzeit University’s Legal Clinic participates in event organized by Independent Commission for Human Rights

On 6-7 December 2022, the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University (BZU) participated in activities spearheaded by the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. Taking part in a meeting entitled Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for Palestinian Youth, the BZU Legal Clinic team comprised five students: Ranin Khalaf, Fida’ Barakat, Shams Dar Safi, Wa’d al-Sheikh, and Thaer Mousa, together with research and teaching assistants, Ms. Hadiyyah Askar and Ms. Sarah Barghouthi.

In their opening remarks, Mr. Islam Tamimi and Anas Bawatneh, ICHR representatives, welcomed the audience and expressed thanks to participants from across Palestinian universities and to the jury. Over two days, the BZU team made contributions, including a short film and presentation on The Right to Peaceful Assembly in Palestine: Reality, Law, and Challenges. The team also highlighted a set of initiatives to be developed next year with support from the BZU Legal Clinic. These initiatives will be launched in partnership with the ICHR in line with an agreed timeline.
