Faculty of Science organizes webinar with physicist Kate Shaw on international day of women in science

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Science celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by organizing a webinar with leading scientist Dr. Kate Shaw, an experimental physicist and lecturer at the University of Sussex, on February 11, 2022.

Researchers, academics and students participated in the webinar, where Shaw introduced her efforts to promote physics Birzeit University’s community and Palestinians in general through the Physics Without Frontiers program, which she founded and which works to inspire, train and motivate physics university students worldwide. Shaw also presented a number of training opportunities offered by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) to scientists and students, especially women, who live and work in third-world countries.

Shaw worked at the master’s program in physics at Birzeit University in 2013, and she is currently a particle physicist at the University of Sussex. Her research is focused on the physics top quark, which is the heaviest known fundamental particle.
