Birzeit University’s International Migration and Refugee Studies receives international academics

Birzeit University’s master’s program in International Migration and Refugee Studies organized a workshop on migration and asylum in the Palestinian context on Saturday, December 3, 2022.

The program received Dr. Lex Takkenberg, former legal advisor at UNRWA and senior advisor at Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development in Jordan, and Dr. Mutaz Qafisheh, professor of international law at Hebron University and human rights officer at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Beirut and Ramallah.

Dr. Qafisheh discussed citizenship legislation and migration in light of the British Mandate for Palestine and the League of Nations, while Dr. Takkenberg discussed the status of Palestinian refugees in international law.

This workshop is part of a series of events hosted by the Politics of Migration and Asylum course, which receives international and local specialists to address migration through different academic fields.
