Birzeit University surpasses Palestinian universities and research organizations in Nature Index 2023

Birzeit University achieved first place in the Nature Index 2023 Annual Tables at the national level, surpassing all Palestinian universities and governmental and non-governmental research organizations included in the index.

Dr. Wafaa Khater, associate professor and dean of the Faculty of Science, and Dr. Rasha Khatib, researcher at the Institute of Community and Public Health, published three distinguished scientific papers in journals included in the Nature Index. The total percentage of these research papers was the highest among Palestinian universities and research organizations.

The Nature Index tracks contributions to research articles published in high-quality natural-science and health-science journals between January 1 and December 31, 2022. The journals are chosen based on reputation by an independent group of researchers.

The Index provides absolute Count and fractional Share counts of article publication at the institutional and national levels. The Nature Index’s signature metric, Share, is a fractional count that calculates the proportion of authors from an institution or country/region and the number of affiliated institutions per article. The Count metric is assigned to an institution or location if one or more authors of the research article are from that institution or location.

Birzeit University takes pride in the achievements of Dr. Khater and Dr. Khatib and looks forward to future contributions from the university researchers, as they allow the university to fulfill its academic and community role and bolster the university’s image as a producer of high-quality research and knowledge at the international level.
