7 Birzeit University researchers amongst the top 2% of researchers in their fields for 2023

Stanford University and Elservier publishing house’s ranking lists based on researchers’ citation indexes for 2023 showed that seven of Birzeit University’s researchers are among the top 2% in the world.

This edition stood out with five of the university’s researchers appearing in the first list of the ranking. The list measures the cumulative research output of the researchers through quality and quantity of the work. The list featured 14 Palestinian researchers; amongst of which five were from Birzeit University; Dr. Talal Shahwan from the faculty of science; Dr. Afif Akel & Dr. Majdi Mafarja from the faculty of engineering and technology; and Dr. Niveen Abu Rmeileh, Dr. Abdullatif Husseini from the Institute of Community & Public Health.

Additionally, 35 Palestine researchers were on the second list measuring the research output in 2022, six of which were from Birzeit university; Dr. Talal Shahwan from the faculty of science; Dr. Khaled Abaza & Dr. Majdi Mafarja from the faculty of engineering and technology; and Dr. Niveen Abu Rmeileh, Dr. Rita Giacaman , and Dr. Abdullatif Husseini from the Institute of Community & Public Health.

It is worth to mention that this ranking began as a team made up of two Stanford researchers cooperating with researchers from Elsevier. This list is based upon the new methodology of the citation index composite. It relies on a number of criteria related to research output. The data is then deployed via classification and review of results related to the researchers through the Scopus database for the top 100 thousand researchers around the world and all fields.
