Birzeit University students win lead in global computing contest

FreePalestine, a team of Birzeit University computer engineering students, took first place nationally, and 43rd globally, out of 6,373 teams in the 2022 IEEEXtreme programming competition, held at Birzeit University on October 22, 2022.

FreePalestine was one of 25 teams representing Birzeit University in the 24-hour competition.

In addition to FreePalestine, MandHandM, another team representing Birzeit University, achieved second place regionally and the 57th internationally, and in sixth place was OldSchoolTakeOver, winning 153rd globally.

The competition was sponsored by Birzeit University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit and Quizplus, and 115 Palestinian teams participated in the event.
