Student law team attain high rank in first Arabic moot competition

A team of law students from Birzeit University ranked among the top 16 teams at the first Saudi Center for Arbitration Arabic Moot. The second round of competition was held on May 14-19, 2022.

After competing against 86 teams, Birzeit University’s law students Kamal Hijaz, Haya Khalad, Afnan Bader and Zaina Abu Rahma comprise the only Palestinian team to qualify for the third round of competition. The team is supervised by law instructor Ikhlas Naser.

The first round, held on October 1, 2021, required each team to prepare written memoranda for the claimant and respondent. In the second stage, students presented their oral pleadings, focusing on the use of international commercial law, commercial arbitration and arbitration law.

The competition is held in partnership with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and the Commercial Law Development Program. It aims to introduce law students to international arbitration rules and procedures and develop their public speaking, written and oral argument
