Faculty of Engineering and Technology students represent Palestine in Dubai’s GITEX Global 2023

Students at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology secured the top spot in the Palestine IoT & AI Challenge 2023. Supervised by the Creativity and Entrepreneurship Unit, the team consisted of Nirmeen Al-Sheikh, Rawan Sous, Youna Nawahida, Mahdi Shoman, and Abdalla Oeda. The event was hosted by Al Nayzak Group in Association with Swedish Diakonia, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence, and the Palestinian Information and Sciences Technology Syndicate.

The team developed a device running on artificial intellegence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT); it rids and limits the spread of pathogens while also predicting the quality of air in the area in order to take necessary precautions.

The device is connected to a sensor that measures the percentage of pollutants in the air, warning its user to take precautions when it is above the limit. It also sends notifications through IoT, while activating a device releasing negative ions that aim to lower the diseases and pollutants in the area. It is connected to an app supporting AI to provide guidance to protect users from pollutants.

The team is heading to Dubai in the middle of October to represent Palestine in GITEX Global 2023.
