Center for Continuing Education Holds Workshop on Public Procurement

The Birzeit University Center for Continuing Education held on February 26, 2015 the first workshop in a specialized program in building skills in the management of the public procurement of small and medium-sized companies. The workshop, which was funded by the World Bank, specifically targeted contractors in the central region of the West Bank. Fourteen contractors attended, reflecting a consensus over the importance of small and medium-sized companies’ participation in private and public procurement tenders.

In her opening address, Vice-President for Community Outreach Samia Halileh emphasized the university’s interest in developing the capacities of local companies and institutions, and promoting the public welfare of local communities through its 11 centers and institutes, including the Center for Continuing Education. Halileh expressed her pride in Birzeit University’s implementation of such an important government initiative in partnership with the Higher Council for Public Procurement Policy and the World Bank. The initiative aims to reform the national public procurement system and develop the capacities of all concerned parties by improving the quality of services provided to all Palestinians.
