Birzeit University professors receive 2023 Palestinian Quebecer Science Bridge grant

Dr. Samah Abu Assab, assistant professor at the Department of Business Administration, and Dr. Amir Khalil, associate professor at the Department of Law, were awarded the 2023 Palestinian Quebecer Science Bridge research grant.

The grant is the result of collaboration between the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology and the Quebec Research Funds, Canada. It provides the opportunity for Palestinian researchers to conduct research in health sciences, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities for three to six months at partner host universities in Quebec.

Dr. Abu Assab will collaborate with researchers at the University of Quebec, Chicoutimi, to investigate Human-Centered Design (HCD) as an approach to accelerate the transition into Society 5.0 and Society 6.0, where sustainable digitalization works for the benefit of the society. The project aims to develop an improved HCD practical approach for small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Dr. Khalil will conduct joint research in the Faculty of Law at McGill University. His research will examine to what degree arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution fosters the rule of law in the Middle East and North Africa region. It will also investigate the impact of arbitration on regional economic development after the COVID-19 pandemic.
