Birzeit engineering students create most innovative, resilient model bridge in national championship

Six Birzeit University civil engineering students took first place in the national Timber Bridges competition, held recently at An-Najah National University.

The competition, organized annually by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)- An-Najah students chapter, sees Palestinian engineering students design, build and test model  wooden bridges, experimenting with familiar and novel designs and testing, and advancing, their technical designs skills and knowledge.

The model bridges are assessed by a panel of judges based on specific criteria such as the overall design and load capacity of the model bridge. Birzeit University’s team, comprising Sujood Hamayel, Ahmad Musameh, Nadine Zarour, Muhannad Shabaro and Muhammad Abu Teir, scored the highest marks overall among the 20 participating teams from An-Najah National University,  the Palestine Polytechnic University, and the Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie.
