Architectural Engineering Department Hosts Lecture on Housing and Urban Space Design

The Birzeit University Architectural Engineering Department held on November 12, 2014 a lecture on housing and urban space design solutions delivered by Maurizio G. Scarciglia, an architect from the Technical University of Berlin, to department students and faculty members.

Scarciglia overviewed some of his projects in housing and public buildings and explained the work mechanism in these projects, which uses scientific research to understand the specificity of the site and the community and to shape the idea of the project design. Scarciglia also presented his work experience in various countries in the world as well as the city of Jerusalem, where he has done a study on the problems and challenges in the design of public spaces in Palestinian neighborhoods in Jerusalem, especially regarding obstacles from the occupation and land ownership.

Students and teachers expressed their great interest in this lecture, which directly focused on both the theoretical and practical aspects of housing and urban space design solutions.
