Major Sociology / Minor Psychology

To contribute to the development of a generation of students specialized in sociology and psychology, equipped with expertise, competence, and specialization in social and psychological issues and phenomena, in order to help build a modern Palestinian and Arab society that combines authenticity with openness and is capable of facing the major and diverse challenges it encounters. The program also aims to enhance students' competencies and their ability to critically engage with emerging developments in the fields of sociology and psychology, while promoting their scientific, research, professional, and personal growth.

  1. To contribute to the development of Palestinian society through sociological and psychological research conducted by faculty members and students.
  2. To prepare a generation of students capable of effectively contributing to the development of their communities in light of the complex challenges facing Palestinian and Arab societies.
  3. To train students to differentiate between scientific and other types of knowledge and to apply scientific research methods to study and propose solutions to social and psychological issues.
  4. To enhance critical thinking, nurture sociological and psychological imagination, and strengthen students’ confidence, identity, and sense of belonging to their community, national cause and humanity.

Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Understanding key concepts and theories in sociology and psychology.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods and social statistics.
  • Linking sociological and psychological knowledge to the Palestinian, Arab, and global social reality.

Intellectual/Cognitive Skills:

  • Development of critical sociological and psychological thinking.
  • Enhancement of research and academic writing skills.
  • Ability to connect social, psychological, economic, and political phenomena.

Subject-Specific and Practical Skills:

  • Critical analysis of Palestinian society through sociological and psychological lenses.
  • Development of sociological imagination (connecting personal and tangible issues to societal structures).
  • Use of electronic databases and library resources.

General and Transferable Skills:

  • Linking theoretical approaches with research practice.
