German Language

The Minor in German as a Foreign Language (DaF) equips students with practical German language skills up to the B1 level of the CEFR, enabling them to communicate confidently in everyday and academic contexts. The program fosters intercultural awareness and provides students with foundational strategies for language learning in multilingual environments. It prepares students for further academic opportunities, international exchange, and entry-level professional roles where German language skills and cultural competence are an asset—especially in education, administration, and international cooperation.

  • To help students develop practical German language skills for everyday communication up to the B1 level of the CEFR.
  • To support students in building effective strategies for dealing with language challenges in academic and daily life contexts.
  • To foster intercultural awareness and the ability to navigate cultural differences in German-speaking environments.
  • Communicate confidently in everyday situations in German (B1 level).
  • Develop strategies to overcome language-related challenges in daily life and academic settings.
  • Recognize cultural differences and similarities in Germany and respond appropriately in everyday contexts.
  • Preparation for Further Study in Germany, especially in Master's programs where B1 is a minimum language requirement for application or visa processes.
  • German Language Support Assistant in local language centers or schools (e.g. assisting in beginner-level courses).
  • Administrative or Liaison Roles in local NGOs, cultural institutions, or German-funded programs that require basic German communication skills.
  • Support Roles in International Offices at universities, especially those with German academic partnerships.
  • Cultural Exchange Programs (e.g. as participants or local coordinators in youth or academic exchange initiatives).
  • Tourism and Customer Service positions where basic German is helpful (e.g. guiding, hotel reception, or tour coordination). 
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program at the university.
  • No prior knowledge of German is required; students will begin with beginner-level courses and progress to B1 level over the course of the program.
