Multidisciplinary Skills for Artists' Entrepreneurship (MUSAE)

Over the last years, the importance of the so-called cultural and creative industries has greatly increased. Today, cultural and creative industries are recognized as driving factors for socio-economic development and, according to global demand, stimulated by the new economy. Indeed, the cultural and creative industries sectors is an important player in the economic and political context, and its strength lays on its ability to encourage both competitiveness and inclusiveness in different fields of business, although its further development still encounters certain obstacles.

Several studies have been produced on the impact of creative industries on the national economy in several countries and regions, but little has been reported on the impact of such new economic frameworks on artists as subjective motives, on learning approaches, the mismatch between learning and teaching methods,  or the underlying decisions on whether to adopt the role of entrepreneurs.

MUSAE, putting together HEIs from countries with both low and  very good performance in creative economy, intends to identify effective methods and tools enabling students to perceive that the acquisition of the new skills, even though apparently far from their subject, is fundamental for their future employment, especially if the training programmes are developed in an international and multidisciplinary context.

Project objectives:

  • To professionalize higher education in a variety of knowledge-based creative fields, focusing on three macro-areas (music, visual arts, cinema, performing arts) and their interactions in Palestine, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan through the design of new modules aiming to provide the future artists with entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary skills.
  • To prepare future artists in Palestine, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan in order to enhance in a more effective way their (self) employability and the capacity to access the creative economy.
  • To develop community-based campaigns and programs to raise awareness of the value of art education and its relations to sustainable development and future employability.
  • To provide a thorough examination of the curricula and the different modules taught (theoretical and practical) at the various higher education art institutes by discipline.
  • To empower staff, administration and teachers working in the field of higher education. 6. To engage the arts students (and teachers) in the local, regional and international art scene through internships, exchange programs, and joint projects.
