ENGC101 | ENGLISH COMMUNICATIONS - (D)

ENGC 101 is a non – credit course offered for students who score 20-40 on the university Placement Test. It meets for 5 hours weekly and 1 hour for Language Laboratory. It aims to provide students with a strong basic foundation in pre-academic English to better enable them to function within the university requirement. It is a combined skills course that integrates the four language skills: reading, writing, grammar, listening and speaking. The aim of the reading component is to improve the students’ comprehension, fluency and reading rate. The writing component aims to develop the students’ basic writing skills. It emphasizes grammatical accuracy, mechanics and writing organization. The grammar part is determined by the material used and students’ needs. The purpose of the listening /speaking component is to facilitate students’ comprehension of instruction in English, improve their ability to communicate in English, and complement their reading comprehension and writing fluency.
