Training workshops for artisans in Hebron continue for 2nd day

As part of the Capitalization for Re-setting Innovation and Sustainability in Med-Cities (CARISMED) project, the Department of Architectural Engineering and Planning at Birzeit University held a second training workshop under the title "Green Practices in Craft and Creative Works and Smart, Green and Sustainable Practices Associated with Circular Economy in Repurposed Buildings.”

Held on July 30, 2023, in Hebron, the workshop was organized as part of awareness and training activities on Low-cost Adaptive Reuse (LCARS) of old buildings and their conversion into innovation labs for artisans in Hebron.

The workshop tackled several topics, including sustainability in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises; intellectual property; and legal aspects in Palestine. It also covered concepts such as green economy, circular economy in handcrafts, waste management in MSMEs as an environmental and economic opportunity, creativity vs innovation, human-centered design and product portfolio.

Key recommendations emerged from the workshop emphasizing the significance of collective work for developing creative products that meet the needs of the local and global market through the use of credible scientific methodologies. The attendees also highlighted the need to apply the principles of circular economy and preserve the rights of artisans.
