Nursing Graduates Swore the Nightingale Pledge

The Birzeit University Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions held its nursing oath ceremony on June 8, 2013. The ceremony was attended by the University President Dr. Khalil Hindi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Mamdouh Aker and Dean of the faculty Dr. Tamer Essawi, as well as a number of faculty members, graduates and their parents.
Dr. Hindi addressed the nursing profession, saying: "It is the noblest profession, almost best and most important, because it contributes to rescuing patients, and is considered a major and strategic profession in health care systems of any country, being an integral part of the economy or the health system.”
Dr. Aker emphasized the role of the nursing profession which complements medical career, saying: "Palestine and other countries are facing a major challenge in the nursing profession, as it has not received enough attention by health sector administrators that would lead to better performance.”
Dr. Essawi said that today’s graduates are the second class of nursing graduates, who are highly qualified to meet the labor market requirements and needs.
The graduate students accompanied by Dean Essawi recited the nightingale pledge, and then the professor of nursing Dr. Imad Al- Asmar read the names of the graduates.
