Birzeit University’s Legal Clinic holds a training on work of Addameer in monitoring and documenting violations against prisoners

On Monday, 28 November 2022, in collaboration with the Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer), the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University (BZU) held a training on the monitoring and documentation of violations as well as follow-up on complaints by Addameer. A presentation was made by Ms. Tala Nasser and Ihtiram Ghazawneh, Addameer representatives. In addition to the BZU Legal Clinic staff, the training event brought together a number of BA and MA students of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration.

Mr. Mohammed Khadher, BZU Legal Clinic Supervisor, welcomed participants in the course and highlighted the Addameer role in monitoring, documenting, and following up on abuses through mechanism that ensured accountability and delivered justice.

Ms. Nasser provided a general overview of Addameer and its various units, including the Documentation Unit, Legal Unit, and Support and Advocacy Unit. Ms. Ghazawneh presented on the different programmes delivered by Addameer and explained the fundamentals, mechanisms, stages, and tools of the documentation process.

Ms. Nasser explained how monitored and documented cases are handled, including legal support, follow-up on complaints, publication, advocacy, reporting, and participation in the United Nations human rights mechanisms. In their interventions, discussions, and inquiries, the audience emphasised the important role of Addameer in monitoring, documentation, and handling of abuses by means of working mechanisms that guaranteed justice, legal and human rights for victims.
