Birzeit University’s Legal Clinic establishes partnerships with civil society organisations

The Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University (BZU) has built several partnerships with civil society organisations to integrate students and volunteers in different justice sector institutions. This will bring about the vision and mission of the BZU Legal Clinic as a supportive education unit. 

The BZU Legal Clinic team has sought to cover several legal aspects in partnerships and collaboration exercises generated by the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs). Relevant human rights institutions have cooperated with the BZU Legal Unit to effectively handle these areas. Setting a framework for cooperation and partnership prospects, the BZU Legal Clinic signed five MoUs have been signed, namely:

  1. Defence for Children International – Palestine Section (DCI): DCI primarily documents Israeli violations against rights of the child.
  2. Lawyers for Justice: This group mainly provides defence for prisoners of conscience and persons detained on political grounds. It also raises awareness about the rights of detained persons.
  3. Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer): Addameer works on cases of political and administrative detention, monitors the situation of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli custody, and advocates for a democratic society and rule of law.
  4. Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (MUSAWA): MUSAWA raises public awareness about promotes independence of the legal profession, judicial practice, and rule of law.
  5. International Legal Foundation (ILF): ILF provides legal aid to vulnerable groups in society.
