Birzeit University Wins Google Research Award

The Birzeit University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering assistant professor Abual-Seaud Hanani won a Google grant of $31,000. The grant supports research projects and the development of modern technologies in computer science engineering and other technological fields.

The project that won the grant is entitled: "Studying the impact of various Arabic dialects on the recognition of automated Arabic text." It was one of 122 projects selected out of 808 projects worldwide in the first quarter of 2015.

Hanini says that the research grant will also support a one-year scholarship for one Birzeit University master's student who will conduct research related to the project.
