Birzeit University Strengthens Private Sector Links Through Consulting Engineering Center

The Birzeit University Institute of Environmental and Water Studies has signed an agreement with the Consulting Engineering Center, and engineering consulting firm, to provide engineering graduate students with partial research grants.

Vice President for Community Outreach Samia Halileh spoke at the signing on February 15, 2014, emphasizing the university’s eagerness to be in communication with all sectors of society and to provide services that contribute to community-building and development.

Consulting Engineering Center director Majed Homoudah said that his company has branches in Jordan, Palestine, and many Asian and African countries, working in water and environment sectors, on roads and dams.

Institute director Maher Abu Madi emphasized how critical students’ relationships with the private sector are in terms of acquiring training and experience. He thanked the center for committing to provide two scholarships a year and participate in committees assessing graduate projects and scientific research. In exchange, the institute will provide the company with services, books, research and references.
