Birzeit University celebrates recipients of university awards

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Birzeit University bestowed honor upon students who received the Gabi Baramki Award of Excellence, the Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation and the Farid Muna and Kanaan Khoury Award for Business Research.

Mahmoud Khasib was honored with the Farid Muna and Kanaan Khoury Award for Business Research in the graduate-level category. As for the undergraduate-level category, the award was shared by Haya Obeidallah and Karem Ghanem, students in the Faculty of Business and Economics. Dr. Grace Khoury, dean of the faculty, granted the winners recognition plaques and a monetary prize.

As the case with the other awards, this award is offered by Birzeit University. The Scientific Research Committee in the Faculty of Business and Economics nominates students who conducted distinguished research to the Central Scientific Research Committee. The cash prize comprises $500 USD to undergraduate students and $1000 USD to graduate students.

Dr. Rania Abu-Hamdah, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Professions, granted Bashaer Waddah Hadded, student in the Audiology and Speech Therapy bachelor’s program, the Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation in recognition of her outstanding performance in the realm of writing, drawing and singing.

Birzeit University introduced the Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation in 2006 to honor students with exceptional abilities in various fields of creativity. To be eligible for the award, candidates must be regular students with a cumulative grade average of no less than 80%. They also must demonstrate unique abilities in the realm of creativity, showcasing a capacity for independent thinking, adaptability and engagement with both the university and the community.

Lecturer Dima Yaser, acting dean of the Faculty of Art, Music and Design, honored student Zain Khatib, who received the Gabi Baramki Award of Excellence in recognition of her distinguished participation in many curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The Gabi Baramki Award of Excellence was launched in the 2012-13 academic year in memory of the late Dr. Gabi Baramki for his contribution to Palestine at large and Birzeit University in particular. The award aims to honor students for their community and university service, in addition to academic excellence.
