The George Antonius Birzeit Visiting Fellowship, St Antony’s College, Oxford

Birzeit University and the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College in the University of Oxford invite applications for the George Antonius Birzeit Visiting Fellowship.

The Fellowship, established through the generosity of Soraya Antonius in memory of her father, supports Birzeit humanities and social sciences’ scholars to conduct up to six months of research at the University of Oxford. Academic faculty members and advanced doctoral students are encouraged to apply.

  • Grant Award:

The Fellowship provides £1000 support for visa costs and travel to the UK, daily lunch and 8 High Table dinners in St Antony’s College, in addition to a monthly stipend of £1,650 for six months.

  • Timeframe:

Fellows can opt to take up their appointment starting either in October 2023 or in January 2024 to coincide with the Oxford academic terms. For more about the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College: https://www.sant.ox.ac.uk/research-centres/middle-east-centre

  • Application materials to be submitted:
  1. A cover letter that includes a short statement of purpose and expected outcomes of the Fellowship
  2. An updated curriculum vitae
  3. A short research proposal
  4. One letter of support from the Department head or the Dean of the relevant faculty.

Priority will be given to scholars who demonstrate research development and rigor, and whose scholarship promotes new directions in Palestinian studies (broadly defined) and connections to global themes.
