Birzeit University’s team secures second place in the Tenth Arab Moot Court competition in Kuwait

The Faculty of Law and Public Administration team at the university represented the State of Palestine in the Tenth Arab Moot Court held at Kuwait International Law School in Kuwait from March 4 to 6, 2024. The team consisted of the students Rawan Bani-Odeh, Donia Saleem, Rinad Battash, and Lina Taha; and their instructor, Professor Nuwar Bdeir.

The virtual case events revolve around the explicit violations of International Humanitarian Law and human rights occurring in the Gaza Strip, pleading before international forums in both the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice in defence of the Palestinian people’s rights in light of the crimes committed by the occupation against them and the atrocities they suffer from.

Among the 18 Arab universities from 14 countries participating, Birzeit University team earned second place, and the award of the best supporting evidence for the International Criminal Court memorandum, as well as the award of The Best Advocate for The International Court of Justice granted for the student Rinad Battash among 36 students representing the same court; after the team went through in the two-rounded preliminaries, qualifying for the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals, and then the final stage.

It is worth noting that Birzeit University has claimed first place in the previous editions of the competition in the years 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022. These participations serve the college and university's strategic framework aimed at creating a generation capable of defending the rights of people before international courts and serving justice and humanitarian causes.
