Arabic Language and Literature
Arabic Language and Literature program aims to meet and fulfill the Palestinian and Arab markets needs of qualified and competent teaching staff in the area of specialization in all teaching cycles. It also aims to empower its students to enhance their knowledge in Arabic literature and linguistics trends and reinforce the use of standard Arabic in speaking and writing. The program also consolidates the students' personalities and talents and raises their belonging to Arabic Language and to Arab nation, which, in turn, would prepare them to be fruitful and constructive members in their community. Additionally, the program strives to turn out student researchers capable of conducting scientific research and nurture their ambitions to pursue their higher education.
- Prepare qualified cadres in the area of specialization to serve as teachers of Arabic Language and Literature in Palestine and the Arab world.
- Prepare competent students in Arabic Language skills and foster their use of standard Arabic.
- Promote students’ competence in the trends of literature, linguistics and criticism and its historic stages.
- Solidify scientific research-oriented trends among students and foster accountability and recurrence.
- Prepare students and motivate them to pursue their higher studies both at home and abroad.
- Foster students’ mindful and critical sense of belonging to their living and dynamic language and their cultural heritage.
- Identify the different ages of Arabic Literature, its history, and scholars of different genre.
- Identify the most prominent linguists, their classifications, and their scholarly schools.
- Distinguish between the different types of literary criticism and its development stages, and distinguish between the different standpoints of Arab critics and their schools over literary criticism issues.
- Identify thematic topics of the three sciences of Arabic rhetoric and Arabic poetic meters, and infer Qur’anic eloquence and Prophetic discourse.
- Differentiate between the different ages of Arabic literature and its characteristics; analyze and compare/contrast between them; and voice their judgment on them.
- Identify the effect of language structure on meaning and deconstruct and reconstruct literary texts.
- Balance between critics’ attitudes over ages and analyze selected literary texts.
- Distinguish between rhetoric and other disciplines; identify the different types of metrical units of poetic meters and differentiate between Qur’anic rhetoric and Prophetic discourse.
- Use the language fluently and accurately.
- Analyze and edit different texts syntactically.
- Evaluate and appreciate literary texts of different genre and attribute it to the appropriate literature age.
- Use rhetoric language and employ poetic meters in application and creativity.
- Correctly use the language in different means of communication.
- Analyze and critique of texts, in particular the literary genre.
- Infer texts. Learn general rhetoric, literary and linguistic rules inductively; and construct their own texts in accordance with the language syntax and styles.
- Teaching Arabic in schools in Palestine and abroad.
- Editing and proofreading in print and broadcast media organizations, publishing houses, and research centers.
- Translation services from and to Arabic (This job opportunity fits students who get diploma or have minor in translation or another language.)
