Workshop on economic cost of Israeli occupation for Palestinians takes place at Birzeit University

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development organized a workshop in cooperation with the Faculty of Business and Economics on the economic cost of the Israeli occupation for Palestinians. The workshop was held at Birzeit University on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

The research team explained the significance of the project for documenting Israeli violations and its economic consequences on the Palestinian economy. They also introduced impact evaluation methodologies and the use of satellite data in economic analysis.

The team’s recent findings show that, in the period between 2000 and 2022, Palestinian economic losses caused by their inability to utilize Area C in the West Bank were estimated at $50 billion USD, whereas Israeli settlements contributed around $1 trillion USD to the Israeli economy
