US Professor Offers View on Challenges in the Pharmacist Profession

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions held on March 19, 2013 a lecture on the challenges of the Doctor of Pharmacy or Pharm D profession that was attended by students and teachers of the Pharm D Program.
Professor Nasir Al-Sharif, a specialist in clinical toxicology at Creighton University in Omaha, California in the United States spoke to the group about practicing as a pharmacist in the US and the challenges facing the profession in the Arab world in general and in Palestine in particular.
He emphasized the importance of the Pharm D role in medical teams as a way of improving pharmaceutical care in Palestine. He also underscored the role of a positive attitude and personality in the pharmacy profession and encouraged students to get engaged in pharmaceutical activities during their study years and to actively participate in pharmaceutical associations.
Professor Al-Sharif also emphasized the need to develop a pharmacy curriculum that suits the Middle East region and fits new trends in pharmaceutical care.
