University professor judges national science and technology competition

Abdelrahim Mousa, a professor of applied mathematics and director of the Master’s Program in Mathematics at Birzeit University, has been appointed as a judge in the 2018 Palestine Science and Technology Fair, which was held in Ramallah on March 9 – 11, 2018.

Mousa was one of a group of 35 judges from various fields and professions, such as deans and lecturers from Palestinian universities, and engineers from the private and public sectors.

Five student innovations have qualified to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel-ISEF), held in the United States next May, where they will represent Palestine. The winning projects were announced in a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Higher Education on March 11, 2018, and attended by Minister of Education Dr. Sabri Saidam and President of Birzeit University Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh.

The five winning projects were chosen from a pool of 88 projects, which were narrowed down from a list of 1300 competing projects across all directorates of the West Bank’s governorates.

The Blind Person’s Cane, was carried out by Nour Al-Huda students Mays Khaldoun and Joana Einsawi and supervised by Fatima Arouri, took the first place in the competition, while Helping Special Needs Children Swim, a project carried out by Al-Eizariya Orthodox School students Eyad Far’oun and Sadeel Nasir Obaidi and supervised by Riham Hilal, took second.
