University employee participates in training at Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Ali Nakhleh, an employee in the Human Resources Department at Birzeit University, participated in a training session during a visit to Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. The visit was part of the Erasmus+ program, which aims to train employees of partner universities.

The training, Nakhleh said, was held from the 17th till the 23rd of December, 2017, and aimed at developing the participants’ skills and exchanging expertise with the various departments of the university. During the visit, Nakhleh was introduced to the sections, employees, and managerial tasks of the Human Resources Department at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He said, “I familiarized myself with the workflow at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and I was presented with a different approach on how to manage employee affairs, salaries, bonuses, rights, privileges, training, and evaluation, in addition to fresh ideas on how to raise the performance levels of the institution, both overall and on an employee-by-employee basis.

Vrije Universiteit Brussel was established in 1970 after splitting Université Libre de Bruxelles into two universities: the French-speaking Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Dutch-speaking Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The university comprises eight faculties and offers a wide range of academic programs in natural sciences, classics, life sciences, social sciences, humanities, and engineering. There are approximately 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students at the university from various nationalities.
