University community protests Israeli arrest of students, aggression on Jerusalem

Birzeit University held a solidarity event to stand against the arrest of its students, Israeli violence against Jerusalemites, and the US-sponsored economic forum in Manama, Bahrain.

Sameh Abu Awad, secretary general of the Union of Teachers and Employees, stated that Birzeit University rejects all acts of violence and aggression against its students, staff and Palestinians in general. “As Palestinians are currently experiencing increasingly violent and abusive measures carried out by Israeli occupation forces with the aim to suppress protests and quench resistance against encroachments on and violations of Palestinian rights,” Abu Awad explained, “we have to intensify our efforts to end the injustice perpetrated by the occupation forces against them.”

Israeli occupying forces detained in the occupied West Bank in the early morning hours of July 4, 2019, seven Palestinian students who are enrolled at Birzeit University, including Usama Fakhouri, the former head of the student council.
