University Administration and Birzeit Student Movement Adopt Joint Position

Following a one and half hour meeting between the university administration and the Birzeit University student movement, an agreement was reached regarding the current situation. Both the student movement and the administration agreed that the university is the body that can investigate and take appropriate action against students involved in the incident on Saturday.

The student movement stated that it would not return to classes at the university while any student remained in prison. This position was agreed upon by all student factions and a separate meeting from the Employees Union at the university adopted the same position.

The meeting between the administration and the student movement also emphasized that the security forces should not use the incident on Saturday as a pretext to arrest students for other issues.

Discussions are currently continuing within the student movement about activities to take place over the coming days against the arrests. There are also discussions with other universities about possible joint activities.
