Undergraduates, graduates study AI in science summer school

Over 65 advanced physics, math, and programming graduate and graduate students met at Birzeit University campus to take part in the annual Palestine Advanced School in Physics 2022, held jointly with Birzeit University’s Department of Physics and Scientists for Palestine, from July 24 to 28, 2022.

The 2022 school, titled “Palestinian Advanced Learning with Machines 2022,” provided the students with an overview of recent developments in machine learning not normally included in the university curriculum.

During the school, students were involved in problem-solving sessions, discussion groups, and lectures that explored key topics in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The students were also introduced by international experts to opportunities to conduct research overseas and delved into the essential qualities of writing a resume.

The international experts included Marwa Mahmoud from the University of Glasgow; Eyad Elyan from Robert Gordon University; Maurizio Pierini from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN); and Daniel Worrall, representing Deepmind Technologies.

Scientists for Palestine, CERN, ICTP, BISAN SYSTEMS, and Gaza Sky Geeks sponsored the school.
