Two Students Honored for Volunteerism and English Talent

The Birzeit University Council honored on June 18, 2014 student Majdi Ibrahim Sheikh with the Yousef Nawas Creativity Award 2014, and student Tamara Barakat with the Ni’meh Faris Excellence in English Language and Literature Award.

Sheikh, an electrical engineering student, has excelled in community service projects by initiating the "Tanween Series," which seeks to promote the culture of reading in Palestinian society, the "Fund for each Patient,” his initiative for those with disabilities and completing more than 700 hours of volunteer work.

Barakat’s award is given to students enrolled in the undergraduate program in English Language and Literature who demonstrate an outstanding academic record in addition to literary production.

Acting University President Henry Giacaman gave the outstanding students plaques and cash prizes. Both expressed their deep gratitude to the university and emphasized that they will continue working hard to serve Birzeit University and the Palestinian community.
