Training on enhancing government media concluded

Birzeit University’s Media Development Center (MDC) concluded a training session that targeted media officers in governmental institutions, focusing on enhancing their knowledge in topics related to managing social media platforms, professional and modern public journalism, and grammar efficiency.

Concluded on February 19, 2020, the session featured Palestinian government spokesperson Ibrahim Melhem and was held in partnership with the Palestinian prime minister’s office and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

More than 100 employees at public relations departments and media offices in ministries and governmental institutions took part in the specialized session.

Nibal Thawabteh, MDC’s director, explained that this training session aims to cover all main concepts, tools, and techniques necessary to build professional and effective journalism in Palestine, especially in government media. She stated that government media could use internet-based technologies, manage media crises, and facilitate social media networks with integrity and objectivity.

Melhem expressed his pride in such activities that contribute to journalism education. He reaffirmed Prime Minister Mohammad Ishtayeh’s vision for Palestinian media which believes that government media should be open to people’s needs, guarantee pluralism, and maintain diversity.
