Trainees Hone Radio Broadcasting Skills at the Media Development Center

Birzeit University’s Media Development Center concluded a five-day training course on the art of radio broadcasting on October 1, 2014. The course was supervised by international editor and journalist Abdul Rahman Othman who works for the German Radio Station Deutsche Welle.

The course was offered to 22 radio and TV broadcasters at local radio and television stations in different West Bank governorates. The training program included exercises in radio broadcasting various types of programs, including sports, politics, economics, recreations and literature.

The trainees carried out listening and evaluation sessions after each recording in the Birzeit University radio studios.

Othman said Palestinian broadcasters in general have refined voices. "I felt the trainees’ great desire to learn exercises, listen and apply them and some of the trainees continued to send in radio materials for evaluation after the conclusion of training."

Yusuf Mahmoud, who worked for 20 years in the Voice of Palestine radio station, visited the classroom on the last day of the training course to talk about his experiences in radio broadcasting and answer questions by the trainees.

The course is supported and funded by the Swedish International Development Agency "Sida," aiming to develop the media profession in Palestine.
