The Director of the United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Program at the University of Iceland Irma Erlingsdóttir met on September 27, 2016 with the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Henry Giacman, the Director of External Academic Relation Office Dr. Amir Khalil, and the Director of Women Studies Institute Dr. Eileen Kuttab.

The parties discussed further areas where the two can cooperate. They both emphasized on the importance of offering postgraduates teaching activities, such as fellowships and scholarships, that contributes to capacity building and as a result, developing communities.

After the meeting, Erlingsdóttir interviewed ten candidates. Six of them will be awarded the fellowship at the beginning of the second semester of 2016-2017.

The United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Program (UNU-GEST) was launched in October 2009 and became part of the United Nations University network in May 2013. The Program facilitates capacity development of professionals and organizations to strengthen their capabilities in the fields of gender equality work by conducting research and through education and training.
