Students go for gold in Imagine Cup Regional Competition

A team of mechanical engineering students from Birzeit University will represent Palestine in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition in the United Arab Emirates, a regional competition. The team took first place in the local competition held at Al-Quds University.

The winning team’s project measures the heart’s size automatically by using Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI. It helps doctors to diagnose a disease’s symptoms using less time and effort.

In addition to the winning team, another group of students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department received second place in the local competition against 13 other Palestinian teams.

The students designed an application to help hearing-impaired people communicate more effectively with others. It translates sign language into text in the Arabic language.

Imagine Cup is Microsoft’s global student technology program, a competition for creating novel applications, games, and solutions.
