Students Awarded Top First and Second Places in Tom Kay Contest

Birzeit University’s architect students got the first and second place in the Tom Kay annual competition for free architectural drawing 2017. The jury consisted of Sameh Abboushi, Dana Abbas, Mohammad Abul Rub and artist Jawad Malhi.

Birzeit University students competed with 16 students from different Palestinian universities. The students were judged based on their hand drawings’ skills, their ability to reflect reality, artistic balance and the drawings subject.

Student Mohammad Samara got the first place and Rola Shaheen got the second.

The Tom Kay Award for freehand architectural drawing is a competition launched in 2008 in memory of British architect, Tom Kay. He worked as a visiting professor at Birzeit University between 2002 and 2005. He joined RIWAQ as a volunteer in 2006. Kay is fascinated by the Palestinian architectural heritage
