The Start of the New Academic Year 2024/2025
On 18 September 2024, the new academic year 2024-2025 launched, where the University received its students enrolled in various university programs in bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. disciplines from various governorates of the country, distributed in 9 different colleges.
The President Dr. Talal Shahwan congratulated the university's society on launching the new academic year "The new academic year starts, our country continues to be subjected to the most heinous forms of aggression and colonial extermination, targeting its existence, cause, institutions, culture and national identity, which are widely perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces and its colonists against our people in Gaza and throughout the country, in grave breach of human and human rights values, charters and customs."
Dr. Shahwan reiterated that In keeping with Birzeit University's academic, community and national responsibility; this year the University will continue its initiative to support and rebuild hope for Gaza's students and universities, which have been subjected to a cognitive annihilation, by targeting its capabilities, buildings, teachers, workers and students. The University will soon launch the Gaza Students' Second Distance Education Course and will begin working on developing applied research partnerships to diagnose and address the effects of brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip.
he continued that Despite the unprecedented hardships experienced by the country, the University has worked to adopt intellectual and knowledge production initiatives and develop specializations and programs that take into account academic development, local and regional conditions, and variables that are linked to modern global trends, within a national vision consistent with the University's identity and mission.
Addressing the students, he said: "I would have liked you to receive this message while our country and people are in better conditions, and to rejoice in your success. But our people's hardships, difficulties and pains place us in the face of a national and moral responsibility that requires mutual support and understanding. As a new academic year begins, the University and society anticipate your insistence on learning and passion for knowledge, to continue to breathe life into the University's courtyards and teaching halls, as you embrace your future in a classroom, effectively refine your personalities, dialogue, and reap a culture and knowledge to graduate ready for construction and reconstruction, for yourself and the country. "
He added: "Be confident that Birzeit University will continue to support its students to be active in positive change in our society. The University will continue its endeavors to secure the grants and assistance necessary to ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to education due to their economic conditions."
