Spokespersons’ Workshop graduate 13 chief of police

Birzeit University’s Media Development Center, in cooperation with GIZ and the Palestinian police, concluded a specialized training workshop titled “Media Spokespersons” that was attended by thirteen chiefs of the police.

Nibal al-Thawabteh, the center’s director, and Emad Alasfer, its monitoring and evaluating coordinator, led the training course that focused on the communication skills needed to deliver a clear and effective message to an audience.

The eight-day workshop tackled key pillars such as the role of media officers in an organization, the skills and qualities expected of media spokespersons, the essentials of media messages, proper writing techniques, radio-interview and videography skills, and the safe use of social media platforms.

Al-Thawabteh explained the aim of this training as enabling the police to convey messages to the public effectively and to use media platforms professionally and wisely.

Ramallah police Chief Munir Al-Talbani highlighted the benefits of the training course for the police, as it empowers officials to communicate better with civilians.

Joachim von Bonin, program manager at GIZ, reaffirmed his institution’s continuous support and its commitment to imparting to the police all the skills needed to overcome crises and manage difficult conditions.

Ruba Kaileh, the coordinator of the training sessions, announced that the center is preparing itself for the second Media Spokesperson training workshop, to be held at the beginning of 2020.

The participants recommended to increase the length of the course and to organize a supplementary course to further enhance their knowledge and skills.
