Shelley Wong, visiting Fulbright scholar, offers international cooperation opportunities

Shelley Wong, a professor of Multicultural/Bilingual Education at George Mason University and a visiting Fulbright scholar at Birzeit University, met with Vice President for Academic Affairs Henry Gaicaman and External Academic Relations Office Amir Khalil to explore channels of academic and research cooperation, on Saturday, October 13, 2018. 

In their meeting, Giacaman and Khalil discussed Shelley’s latest research efforts, which include a research project with Birzeit University professors on interdisciplinary collaboration in classrooms, and a new book on the role of music in education. 

The team also investigated faculty and student exchange opportunities between Birzeit University and George Mason University with Professor Wong, with plans for a broader memorandum of understanding between the two institutions in the future. 

The planned cooperation between the two universities extends to joint research projects and conferences, especially in cultural and multidisciplinary fields. 

Wong, who served as a board member of the TESOL International Association, noted the opportunities for cooperation with faculty members in the Department of Languages and Translation at Birzeit. 

Shelley Wong is an Associate Professor at George Mason University in Multicultural/ESL/Bilingual Education. Before teaching at George Mason, Wong was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, College Park and an associate professor in the Foreign/Second Language Education with a Specialization in Language, Literacy and Culture at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
