In seminar, students explore current issues in Arabic-language research

Research topics in Arabic language were the focus of a seminar organized by the Department of Arabic Language and Literature on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in which students, professors and faculty members from the university’s various departments and programs discussed issues relevant to the usage of Arabic in the context of a globalized, interconnected world.

In his opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Majdi Al-Malki emphasized the department’s efforts in Arabic-language research and studies, noting that such endeavors encourage further exploration into Arabic language and culture both at Palestinian universities and in the broader community.

Nasralla Alshaier, who gave a speech on behalf of the department chair, highlighted the department’s research undertaken in cooperation with the university’s various faculties, programs, institutes, and centers. “Research and studies authored by Birzeit University faculty members,” he added, “have garnered widespread acclaim and recognition from local, regional, and international institutions.”

The seminar consisted of two sessions: the first, chaired by Mahmoud Atshan, focused on translation between Arabic and German and on the historical aspect of Arabic linguistics, while the second session, chaired by Omar Musallam, revolved around Arabic rhetoric, Arabic calligraphy, and historical Arabic dictionaries.
