Seminar Discusses New Fields in Insurance in Palestine

The Birzeit University Banking and Finance department at the Faculty of Business and Economics held on May 13, 2014 a seminar on the occasion of insurance day. The seminar was attended by representatives of the university, the Capital Market Authority, the Palestinian Federation of insurance companies, Palestinian insurance companies and their union, and insurance agents.

In his opening address, department chair Munther Nijim stressed the university’s interest in the insurance sector and ongoing efforts to offer insurance as a major field of specialization. Nijin said he valued the efforts of the Palestine Capital Market Authority and its partners in the insurance sector.

Research and Development director at the Capital Market Authority Bashar Abu Zarour spoke about the importance of holding an insurance day in Palestinian universities. He emphasized the need to establish an insurance specialization in higher education that is in line with the growing needs of the Palestinian insurance sector for highly-qualified insurance staff.

Department of Public Administration Chair at the Faculty of Law and Public Administration Mohammed Hanini then addressed Islamic insurance as an emerging sector in Palestine. The chairman of the Insurance Agents’ Union in Palestine, Samir Abu Shaweesh, talked about the vital role of brokers, insurance agents, and reinsurance brokers in Palestine.
