Political Science Department Organizes a Lecture on the Palestinian Leadership

The Political Science Department in collaboration with the Digital Archives in the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies organized on April 27, 2015 a lecture entitled "Studies in the Palestinian leadership: Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini in the diaries of his contemporaries," presented by the professor of political science Samih Hammoudah, and moderated by Murad Shaheen.

Hammoudah asserted that it is through the study of political thought and practice of the Palestinian leadership and its relations with local, Arab and international powers, we can correctly understand the causes of the defeat that befell on our people, and why we are unable to achieve any of the objectives of the Palestinian national project. Hammoudah stressed the need to remove the aura of the Palestinian leadership holiness, and study the historical conditions experienced by the Palestinian leadership.

Hammoudah explained that the importance of referring to the diaries and manuscripts in studying the Mufti leadership of national movement, and explained the status of the Palestinian leadership during the Mandate period.

Among the findings of the study, which relates to the assassination issue of the opponents, Hammoudah elucidated that Haj Amin al-Husseini has assassinated a large number of political opponents, which is confirmed by one of his relatives in his memoirs. This assassination course was repeated more than once during the Palestinian revolution.
