Photographer Yousef Khanfar Explains the Power of Photographs

Award-winning Palestinian-American photographer Yousef Khanfer presented a lecture on November 19, 2016 on the power of photography, and its effects on people.

Speaking at the invitation of the Media Department at Birzeit University, Khanfar said that photographers can use their cameras as tools of exploration, passports to inner sanctums, and instruments for change.

Khanfar explained his affection for photography, pointing out that this profession is his voice to "promote peace around the world.”

“I believe peace is a finer horse to ride than violence,” he told the audience.

Images, according to Khanfar, matter now more than ever. He encouraged students to document and re-tell the stories of Palestinians, archiving their culture and identity through pictures.

During the lecture, Khanfar showcased a number of his photos for the students, and gave them some tips and guidelines for producing a better, more impressive picture.
